Getting those bags & boxes packed? Check out a few tips from Team Gatlin on how to save a dime or two during your moving process!
#PLANAHEAD Typically, when people start to rush they tend to spend more money than they would have normally. By pre-planning your move weeks, or if possible months, beforehand you not only can reduce stress but you can save money in the long run! Often you will find better rates on movers and moving trucks by booking in advance. Along these lines definitely consider a mid-week move, rates are often cheaper without a Saturday and Sunday in the mix! Is it a long trek to your new home? Finding hotels that have appropriate parking for moving vehicles can take some pre-planning, so look in advance. Also preplan by getting some helping hands lined up. With busy schedules people make plans pretty far out, be sure you nab the help you need with plenty of advance warning! You save tons by having extra hands to help vs. paying movers.
#PURGE An old adage states “less is better, so get rid of it!” Moving is a prime time to sift and sort thorough everything! Purging will not only help save money but it opens up space in both packing and setting up your new home. Don't pay to move things you won't end up using. Now is the time to toss the unused work out equipment, throw away those items you haven't even seen in years, and downsize whenever and wherever you can. Consider a big yard sale prior to the move out date. Not only will you get ride of unnecessary items but you'll have a few extra dollars in your pocket!
#PACKSMART It can cost hundreds of dollars to pack up a 3-4 bedroom house. The good news is that there are ways to reduce that cost across the board! Begin gathering those boxes as soon as you know you are moving. Hit up local businesses such as grocery stores, dollar stores, etc. Many times if you call ahead they will set aside boxes for you on delivery days, it never hurts to ask! Keep your eyes on your social media feeds, a lot of people will offer up their boxes and containers after they have moved. Need to protect those fragile belongings? While bubble wrap goes a long way you can get just as much safety for your items by using household towels and t-shirts. A tip in transporting clothes: instead of garment boxes try using trash bags. Simply create a small hole and pull the bag over hangers on bunches of clothes, then knot the bottom of the bag....easy peasy! These are just a few simple suggestions using things you have at your disposal and they'll save you tons! These are three solid ideas that will at least get you started on money-saving during your move. Team Gatlin has expert Agents just waiting to hand out more tips.
